Derelict 210 year old Kildare house 'should be a water sports centre'

However the water quality may not yet be good enough
A derelict 210 year old house in Naas could become a water sports hub.
Local councillor Evie Sammon said Market House, located by the Grand Canal harbour in Naas, could be the base for water sports like canoeing and kayaking.

The site was more recently the subject of plans for a restaurant, which have not materialised.
Cllr Sammon also asked that Kildare County Council work with the Environmental Protection Agency to “retest the water quality” in the harbour.
She believes that the weather is not safe enough for water sports.
A Naas Municipal District meeting was told that it’s the role of Waterways Ireland to carry out monitoring on the Grand Canal, Royal Canal, and Shannon-Erne Waterway and Kildare County Council does not have any responsibility in relation to monitoring water quality in these waterways.
WI is to be asked to assess the quality of the water.
