A man from Clonmel has been accused of assaulting a doctor.

The allegation was heard during vacation sittings at Naas District Court on Thursday, August 24 last, and relates to Eoin Hughes, with an address listed as 10 Boherduff Close, Clonmel, County Tipperary.

It was alleged by gardaí that on April 6 last, the 33-year-old assaulted a doctor at Tipperary University Hospital.

Specifically, the accused has been charged with assault causing harm, which falls under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

Bail was granted for Mr Hughes, on the following conditions: he must reside at his listed address; he must observe a curfew from 11pm to 6am; he must sign on three times daily at his local garda station; he must have no contact with the alleged injured party (including through social media); and he must provide his phone number to gardaí and be contactable at all times.

When he was offered legal representation by substitute Judge Miriam Walsh, he turned it down, and instead offered to represent himself in the case.

The case will resume on September 19 in Clonmel District Court.
