Dumping of building site waste near Donnelly's Hollow is 'unacceptable' - Council

Kildare Co Council warned that the dumping of construction and demolition waste near Donnelly's Hollow in the Curragh is "unacceptable"

Officials said the their serious concerns on the issue have been communicated to the Department of Defence.

The Council added that a  technical assessment of the material has been carried out and that,  subjectto further monitoring, there doesn't seem to be a danger of environmental pollution.

But it added: "It does, however, remain an unauthorised use and, in this context, the council will be seeking a formal meeting with the Department of Defence to ensure that all issues are fully addressed and resolved."

The Council said that the concerns of local councillors are fully understood and noted and will be cononveyed to the Department of Defence.

Cllr Mark Lynch had earlier called on the Municipal District Committee to state its objection to the ongoing neglectful treatment of the Curragh Plains.

He called for a immediate explanation of why "a significant amount of organised dumping occurred on a national monument and special area of conservation."
