€100 fine imposed on Kildare man by judge for verbally abusing his wife while drunk

GUILTY PLEA SUBMITTED
A fine of €100 was imposed on a man aged in his 60s for verbally abusing his wife while he was drunk.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court on Thursday, January 11 last.
Defending solicitor Tim Kennelly told the judge that the injured party was not present in court, and added that the man and his wife have reconciled their differences since the incident.
Gardaí told Judge Zaidan that the woman said she was put in fear by the man's verbal abuse.
It was heard that the man has previous convictions for public disorder and traffic offences, but none related to domestic violence offences.
Mr Kennelly said: "It's all linked to drink, judge. He is deeply ashamed of his behaviour."
"That's not how a man should behave towards his wife," Mr Kennelly added.
Judge Zaidan imposed a €100 fine on the man and ordered him to pay it within three months.
