Fundraising run in memory of popular garda who lost her brave battle with cancer

Relatives of a popular garda who lost her battle with cancer are taking part in a fundraising run in her memory.
The late Garda Deirdre Darcy Hogan, who was a Juvenile Liaison Officer based in Nenagh, lost her third battle with cancer in October last year.
Family and friends of the mother-of-three are organising a run in Killarney on May 13 to raise funds via Gofundme for North Tipperary Hospice and the Irish Cancer Society.
A family spokesperson said: "Deirdre was a very special lady to her loving husband Noel, children Thomas, Sarah and Jack and all her family and large circle of friends.
"Sadly, Deirdre lost her tough four year battle with cancer after a hugely courageous fight.
"For anyone that was so lucky to know Deirdre they will know how selfless she was and even through her tough battle she was an advocate for raising money for the North Tipperary Hospice and only three years ago she raised over €50,000."
The family added: "During Deirdre’s journey with cancer she found great support from the Irish Cancer Society and North Tipperary Hospice.
"These two charities were very close to Deirdre’s heart as they helped her find strength in battling her cancer and also provided her and her family with immense support and kindness when needed.
"Our family will be running the half marathon and 10k in Killarney on May 13 on behalf of these two worthy causes. The money raised will help families dealing with such a devastating illness."
