Speaking at the launch James Lawless TD congratulated Martina and said she was a great advertisement for her own work as not only was she making great art from recycled materials but she has repackaged her own life and recast the raw product of her energy, imagination and innovation and turned it into something new which will enhance the local landscape and the artistic community. He added that he believed in Naas and was confident it was on the turn, noting that while some businesses have sadly closed many more continue to open and within a few doors of the gallery were the likes of newcomers Lips&Ps, Rustic restaurant and the new HairSalon two doors up from the Mall. He added that the town was always a mix of the old and the new and noted that the Naas country market had celebrated 65 years at the town hall only the week before.

Mayor Robert Power also wished Martina well and recalled that his mother once ran a business on the same street. He said he would take good note of the works on display and joked that men in particular were great for shopping local - as they always left it to the last minute!

The new gallery is online at: http://www.drossevolution.com/

Dross Evolution has also recently done a hugely successful exhibition in Newbridge Silverware repurposing their factory floor waste, so Martina is off to a great start.

GALLERY: ART GALLERY WITH A DIFFERENCE LAUNCHES IN NAAS

An art gallery with a difference was launched in Naas this afternoon by Sallins resident Martina Shannon. Martina, who lost her previous business as a result of the economic crash, has launched the new venture - Dross Evolution - to showcase art specifically made from recycled or sustainable materials.

She has brought 15 different artists together to showcase their work in her new spot at Moat Mall and all their wares were on display today at the launch.

Dross Evolution is the vision and brain child of Artist and Designer Martina Shannon. She graduated from NCAD in 2016 with an Honours Bachelors Degree in Textiles, Art and Artefact.

She is passionate about creating Art from waste materials in the form of factory floor waste. It has been a lifelong dream of hers to have a gallery that is filled with beautiful artworks created from materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.
