The site is the burial place of Irish patriot Wolfe Tone

A request had been made for a Columbarium Wall to be provided at Bodenstown Cemetery, outside Sallins.

The site is known internationally as the burial place of Irish patriot Wolfe Tone, one of the leaders of the 1798 Rebellion who died in prison in November of that year.

Local councillor Carmel Kelly has asked Kildare County Council to approach the Office of Public Works (OPW) about the possibility of building a wall there.”

A Columbarium Wall is a permanent, respectful structure in a cemetery or church designed to hold cremated remains.

They are found in dedicated memorial gardens, cemeteries, church grounds and crematoriums and provide a space-conscious and often more affordable alternative to traditional burial plots.

KCC said it will contact the OPW with the request.
