A Holy Family Convent student in Newbridge is one of a number of teenagers fundraising to travel and assist orphans in Kenya.

This Thursday from 9.30pm, a table quiz will be held at the Inn at Milltown, to raise funds for The Cara Project.

Mary Wilson Reilly (15), a  Transition Year student at the Holy Family Convent, Newbridge,  is heading the fundraiser on Thursday, in a bid to raise €2,500.

It is anticipated that Mary along with other students will travel to Kenya next February. They are planning to assist the girls in the orphanage build a fish tank and assist them in dancing and music classes.

She said: " One of the  reasons why I am so interested in travelling to Kenya to volunteer is because  one of my family members told me that they too were  in an orphanage in Ireland for a number of  months before they got adopted. This is one of the reasons I  was really intrigued to go over to Kenya to volunteer and help out with the  orphan children because I am aware of all the hardships that they face and the effects they may have further on in life."

The price is €10 per person and €40 for a table of four. The prize is €100, there will be  a raffle on the night  with lots of  spot-prizes to be won. Anybody is welcome to the event.
