A woman told Naas District Court she is terrified of her husband.

She alleged to the court she is terrified of him adding “he’s a bully” and she applied for an interim protection order.

She further alleged that he is involved in drugs and the situation has escalated in the last two years.

The woman told the court that she had not changed her surname when she married, adding “I’m very glad now that I didn’t.”

Judge Desmond Zaidan acknowledged there are issues in the marriage but said these could be dealt with in a family law court rather than seeking a protection order.

He said there is a pattern of people coming before the courts with marital problems but he said that family law legislation is not designed to deal with these issues.

The judge nevertheless granted her an interim protection order and adjourned the matter to December 14. He also said that her husband puts her in fear and in the meantime she should contact the gardaí.

The man was not present or represented.
