Storm Darragh was the most severe storm to impact Ireland’s telecommunications network since 2017

New research has shown Kildare was among the counties most effected by Storm Darragh.

Eir is actively working to restore services following the significant damage caused by Storm Darragh, the most severe storm to impact Ireland’s telecommunications network since Storm Ophelia in 2017.

Key Updates:

  • Over 82,500 broadband faults have been repaired
  • Less than 1% of mobile network sites are offline, down from a peak of 15% last Saturday, 7 December
  • ESB has restored power to approximately 380,000 homes and businesses, with 15,000 homes still awaiting reconnection

The company thanks its customers for their patience and understanding during this challenging time and remains fully committed to restoring services promptly.

In response to the unprecedented level of damage, eir declared "Storm Mode" nationally on Tuesday, December 10. This allows the company to concentrate all resources on fault repair by:

  • Deploying over 1,000 team members, including additional trained technicians, to focus exclusively on repairs.
  • Implementing overtime and weekend shifts to accelerate restoration efforts.
  • Redirecting network build resources to speed up fault resolution.

Areas Most Impacted: Counties Galway, Kildare, Leitrim, Roscommon, and Wicklow have been hardest hit by the storm. Many of the faults in these regions involve complex repairs, some requiring multiple visits. Eir remains committed to completing these repairs as swiftly and safely as possible.

Technicians are working around the clock to reconnect affected customers as quickly and safely as possible, reaffirming that service restoration is eir’s top priority.
