Heritage concerns

A total of eight homes are being built in Prosperous.

AMC Properties Ltd, based in Co Tipperary, originally wanted to retain and preserve the existing villa house at Curryhills (protected structure) as a private dwelling, and construct 12 two-storey three-bed dwellings in three terrace blocks.

Kildare County Council refused permission for the development due to heritage concerns.

It said the proposed development would set "an undesirable precedent for similar poor-quality development within the grounds of a protected structure and would be contrary to the proper and sustainable development of the area."

In its appeal, AMC Properties Ltd said it had made changes to the plans and also addressed the council's reservations from a conservation and heritage perspective.

An Bord Pleanala has now granted permission with conditions such as the omission of Block C comprising of four units and for the timber cladding on Blocks A and B to be replaced with coloured brick.
