KILDARE COURT: Middle Eastern man faces three sexual assault allegations

Woman followed to office in Maynooth University - claim

A man facing three allegations made an appearance at Naas District Court.

The defendant, who is originally from the Middle East,  has proceedings translated for him by an interpreter.

The court was told that the incidents took place on three separate dates in June and July and that the defendant has been in custody for three and a half months - although he has consent to be granted bail.

All of the alleged victims were over 18.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said that on occasion it will be claimed he attended Maynooth University, encountered a woman and followed her to an office.

He said it’ll be alleged that he leaned in to kiss her, grabbed her anus and right breast.

On another occasion while at a bus stop he put his hand on the left thigh of a woman. He moved her dress upwards and he also put a hand on her breast.

In a separate incident it will be claimed that a woman was on a train to Maynooth when the defendant put his arm around her and grabbed her breast.

Defending solicitor David Powderly told the court the man had handed in a passport form a country in the Middle East but the gardaí had not yet indicated if they were happy with this document.

He said the gardaí were to contact Interpol but it appeared to him that the international police organisation “had no assistance to offer.”

Judge Desmond Zaidan adjourned the case to December 4.
