KILDARE COURT: Threw car jack through sitting room window after being told to leave party

A man threw a car jack through the sitting room window of a house in Blessington where a party was taking place.
Before Naas District court was Daniel McLoughlin, 24, whose address was given as 9 Oak Drive, Blessington.
The court was told that the man, who appeared via videolink, is serving 31 months in custody which was imposed at Waterford Circuit Court.
He was prosecuted for possessing ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of €430 at the Life music festival in Mullingar on May 26, 2019, as well as criminal damage at an address in Oak Drive, Blessington, on November 3,2018.
A number of other allegations were taken into account or withdrawn and these included a separate claim of possessing ecstasy in Blessington in October 2017; obstructing a grda in May 2018 and again on August 2018 when he called a garda a “faggot” as the garda tried to search him.
Defending solicitor Tim Kennelly told the court that the defendant was not making money from the drugs and they were for his friends.
Referring to the house party incident, he said the defendant has been invited to the party.
The court heard that the defendant was asked to leave at around 8am and then returned and threw the jack through a window.
Mr Kennelly said the defendant was 18 at the time and had no previous convictions.
He added the defendant ”got into difficulty” in Waterford but he went to Tenerife and became assistant manager in a bar after starting out doing menial work.
“He was very much trusted by the owners,” said Mr Kennelly.
He added the defendant had grown up and deserved some commendation because he recognised he was going down a bad route.
And he asked that whatever term is imposed be allowed to run concurrently with that imposed in Waterford.
Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed two consecutive 11 month custody terms and these will run alongside the existing custody term meaning he will not have to serve any additional time.
