Kildare hotel expected to go on sale in coming months and fetch more than €50M

The sales of hotels have been on the increase in the last number of months as the wheels on the economic recovery start to turn at greater speed, and a number of hotels in the Greater Dublin Area have been sold for eye-watering prices in that time.
Carton House in north Kildare could be the next major property in the hotel industry to go on sale, as Nama will reportedly put the golf resort on the market for more than €50 million.
The 1,100-acre estate is the training base for the Irish rugby squad, while Irish soccer team and various other professional soccer teams also train at the Maynooth venue.
The Sunday Times report that the most likely buyers for the hotel will come from a pool of international bidders who have taken a keen interest in the Irish hospitality industry. There have been numerous hotels sold for sums of €90million upwards in Dublin in the last year or so, and the bidders who missed out on securing those properties are likely to have a big interest in Carton House.
Dan O'Connor, senior vicepresident of hotels at JLL, said: "A number of underbidders have lost out recently and no doubt they've already done their due diligence on Dublin and they want to find a home for their money. That's going to help with additional product coming to the market."
