Brother allegedly shared intimate images of sister

A district court judge has commented that he never came before a case like this when a brother was accused of sharing intimate images of his sister on a social media platform.

The man faces three allegations of distributing or publishing intimate images  on three occasions - between dates in February 2020 and June 2021, in July 2021 and in May 2021 - contrary to the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offence Act.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan told Naas District Court previously that a large number of images of the man's sister were shared.

Detective Garda Paul Feely told the court it will be alleged that the defendant got the pictures off the injured party’s phone.

The defendant has pleaded not guilty.

He made a second court appearance accompanied by his mother, who told Judge Desmond Zaidan that she is communicating with both children.

Judge Zaidan said that on the face of it, it is a nasty allegation - but it is only an allegation.

He said a case like this had not come before him in his lifetime, adding that normally siblings would protect each other.

The case wad adjourned for the preparation of a book of evidence to July 19.
