A Kildare resident is among the six men hoping to be crowned Westmeath Bachelor of the Year.

Last year 25-year-old Kerry farmer and musician Bryan Murphy won over the judges with his charismatic personality and a captivating performance on the accordion.

As the competition returns to the Midlands on Saturday 29th July who will follow in his footsteps?

Six hopefuls have been selected, whittled down from hundreds of entrants, are dusting down their glad rags and perfecting their party pieces in the hopes of being crowned the next Westmeath Bachelor of the Year!

Our top six include gym enthusiasts, comedians and solicitors… without further ado, meet your 2023 finalists!

21 year-old James Doyle hails from Killucan, Westmeath and currently lives in Leitrim. If you think he looks familiar, you’ve probably seen him on social media, thanks to his now viral and famous ‘Protein bor’ catchphrase, with over 50 million likes on Tik Tok.

Whilst his ambition may to be to represent Ireland at the Eurovision, 29 year-old Ciaran Clarke’s more serious aim is to become a solicitor, he is currently studying and working in a legal firm in Dublin, his hometown is Rosemount.

Fabio David, 35, a comedian, MC, entertainer and actor better known as Blackpaddy from Kildare.

Born in Nigeria, Blackpaddy channels the African man in Europe and embraces Irish culture throughout his live sets. He quickly made a name for himself while performing on the streets of Dublin and creating viral videos which have amassed 150 million views online.

A former international athlete and national champion, 32 year-old Steven Colvert works in finance in Dublin and is originally from Mullingar.  Single but a cat dad and an avid gamer. Wearing his finance hat he was attracted to the Bachelor Competition as an opportunity to raise some money for charity - if he wins!

The youngest of five, 31 year-old is from small town near Castlecomer North Kilkenny. John Coady is a man of many roles, armed with his Ag Science degree, he works on a farm, for a funeral director, a bookkeeper and most recently a model – which might be of use as he struts the stage at the competition.

Will the title of the Westmeath Bachelor remain in the Kingdom in 2023? Can 37 year-old John Carroll from Tralee follow in the successful footsteps of last year’s winner Bryan Murphy.  As someone who spends a huge amount of time raising money for local charities, his eye is on the prize of winning The Bachelor Festival to raise even more for charity and with a black belt in Taekwondo, he knows the art of competition!
