A man who slapped his partner and breached a safety order twelve times was before Naas District Court.

The man was detained on May 23 after breaching the order and slapping his partner.

The court was told that they have a baby together.

The incident happened when he came home intoxicated. He was not making any sense and slapped the woman before threatening to harm himself with a kitchen knife.

Solicitor Tim Kennelly said the man intends to move to a different address.

Referring to the relationship Mr Kennelly said: “They’re just not a good mix and he needs to realise that or he’ll go to prison.”

He also said that the man had kept returning because “she keeps inviting him back.”

He said that the defendant had been returning to stay for a period of time.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said the man’s behaviour was cowardly given that the woman is the mother of his child.

“It’s the definition of a coward to treat the mother of his child like this,” he said.

He imposed a term of 14 days in custody for assault.
