KILDARE: No traffic calming or pedestrian crossing for Athy street

Calls for traffic calming measures and a pedestrian crossing at Athy’s Woodstock Street have been turned down by Kildare County Council.
Mark Leigh requested that a pedestrian crossing be located near Shrewleen Lane.
Also, Cllr Brian Dooley asked KCC to carry out a traffic and pedestrian accessibility and speed survey on Woodstock Street.
But KCC engineer Donal Hodgins said there are “no plans at the present time to install any traffic calming measures in Woodstock Street and the enforcement of speed regulation is a matter for the gardaí.”
Mr Hodgins said there is currently no funding allocation for the provision of new pedestrian crossings in the county.
He added that the street will be added to a list of “similar type requests for assessment to determine the most appropriate type of pedestrian crossing required “when a future funding source is identified.”
