Kildare passengers can join rail tour to mark 100th anniversary of the Great Southern Railway's formation

201 class locomotive and Iarnród Éireann mkIV Intercity carriage set
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Great Southern Railway's formation, on Saturday 16th November 2024 Táilte Tours is running a special railtour from Dublin Heuston to Killarney, with several premium seating classes available (Torc Class includes an exclusive gift, sparkling wine and complimentary morning snacks).
Passengers can join at Dublin Heuston, Kildare, Portarlington or Limerick Junction, the provincial stops will allow connection with trains from Cork, Waterford and the west of Ireland.
The train will be a 201 class locomotive and Iarnród Éireann mkIV Intercity carriage set, normally used on Cork services.
For railway enthusiasts, this will include the first ever passenger run of these carriages on the Limerick line, over which we will take a detour.
201 class locomotives have been rare visitors to Limerick or Kerry since railcars took over in 2009. There will be a bookstall on board selling rare transport books and it’s all a great opportunity to meet fellow transport fans.
A catering trolley service will be available throughout the tour, and Emerald Class includes a reclining seat and complimentary tea/coffee on departure from Dublin.
Final times to be confirmed by Iarnród Éireann but a departure from Dublin in or around 09:10 is envisaged. Passengers will have over 3.5 hours break in Killarney for lunch and shopping.
Booking now open at this link; bookings close 8th November.
