Kildare residents invited to comment on planning permission changes

It's proposed to allow some works to be done without having to apply for permission
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has launched a 4-week public consultation on proposed changes to planning permission exemptions.
These updates aim to cut red tape for small-scale projects and free up local authority resources for larger housing developments.
The proposed exemptions include attic conversions (with rooflights); installation of heat pumps; subdivision of homes (e.g. for older family members) and detached living units (e.g. for carers or relatives).
The consultation period closes at 5pm, Tuesday 26 August 2025.
