Kildare taxi driver fined for dangerous driving on twisty road

A Clane taxi driver caught travelling at 100km per hour in a 60 km per hour zone was fined €750 at Naas District Court.

Robert Higgins (47) of Oatfield Park in Clane was stopped by a garda near Bodenstown at 4.15am on March 14 last year.

The court was told that a charge of dangerous driving was being brought because the stretch of road had several bends and was poorly lit.

The driver immediately apologised to the garda who stopped him and was extremely co-operative, the court heard.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said of the defendant: "He drives for a living. He should know better. That's how accidents happen."

He added: "If I disqualify him, he will lose his livelihood."

Judge Zaidan then opted to impose a fine of €750 for dangerous driving and allowed him six months to pay.
