KILDARE: Temporary car park is ruled out for Naas

There is to be no temporary car park for Naas.
Cllr Seamie Moore asked that Kildare County Council consider using the Fairgreen green space as a public temporary car park amenity ”during the huge disruption caused by the road construction works in the area.”
Cllr Moore said that he was seeking a tarmacadam covering for a six months period.
But Cllr Bill Clear said that parking spaces on the former swimming pool site, which are used by staff at the St Corban’s boys primary school, could be used during the summer months when the school is closed.
According to Kildare County council the Fairgreen is not designed as a parking area and would not be capable of catering for regular movements of traffic or parking as the surface would be eroded and damaged.
It was also pointed out that parking spaces are available nearby at Ballymore Road, Supervalu and at the opposite car park.
KCC official Eoghan Ryan thought the proposal is a “non-runner from a planning perspective.” He said the procedure associated with such a proposal would be time consuming.
