A Kildare woman admitted stealing groceries from Dunnes Stores in Portlaoise.

Ann Collins, 40, of Grey Abbey Road, Kildare town admitted stealing groceries from Dunnes Stores in the Kyle Centre, Portlaoise on March 11 last.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told Portlaoise District Court that the defendant took groceries valued at €133 after entering the store at 1pm on the date in question.

He said she made full admissions and had 11 previous convictions, nine of which related to road traffic offences.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said the accused has no previous for theft, had entered an early plea of guilty and had brought €100 to court. She said the woman was originally from Co Louth.

“She can give no good reason as to why she offended,”  Ms Fitzpatrick told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Judge Andrew Cody ordered that the €100 be donated to Laois Hospice.

When the money was handed over he applied the Probation Act.
