Work is ongoing to repair the number of faulty public lights across County Kildare.

The county council said that there were 464 “active faults” when a new contractor took over in July.

Independent Ireland councillor Ger Dunne asked about “non functioning streetlights and public lights” in the Naas area.

According to KCC the performance of the contractor is monitored using fault reporting software. KCC said that the contractor has been making progress since commencing on 15 July.

The number of  active faults had been cut to 327 by the end of August. KCC said the contractor is working towards reducing the fault count “down to the anticipated level of 260, or 1% of our entire inventory.”

It added the contractor currently has four electricians that are approved to work in County Kildare “and are working towards having six electricians.”
