The speed ramps ‘should be reduced to a proper height’

Road ramps put in place across Kildare won’t be getting any lower.

Kildare County Council was asked to reduce the height of speed ramps to a maximum of 100 mms (10 centimetres).

The request came from Newbridge councillor Tom McDonnell who said “this is the proper height” according to guidelines used by KCC and the Road Safety (Authority).

But KCC said that ramps constructed on public roads in the county are built in line with a standard layout “at the recommended height of 75mms” and in accordance with the design used for urban roads and streets."

It added that the lead in taper ratio is “the standard transition which ensures a smooth transition.”

KCC also said that where councillors are aware of any ramps that require inspection, these can be brought to the attention of KCC which will “arrange to carry out an inspection and schedule any remedial works within current budgets.”
