New street lights are needed for the backstreet in Newbridge.

That’s according to Fianna Fáil councillor Noel Heavey, who made the comments at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on Wednesday, December 14 last.

In his motion, Cllr Heavey requested that Kildare County Council (KCC) 'to commission and bring forward a report on public lighting of the streets and lanes connecting Main Street to Eyre Street, and in the developed squares within that part of Newbridge designated for Public Realm Development, as a matter of urgency.'

Cllr Heavey continued: "I would like to see some attempt a rehabilitation programme, and for pressure to be put on those engaging in anti-social behaviour to stop."placeholder image

He added: "The anti-social behaviour has had a big impact on myself, as well as on the local community as a whole."

In response to his request, KCC said that the lighting at this location will be assessed as part of the PLEEP (Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project), which will commence in Q2 2023 in County Kildare.
