Major works completed on Maynooth Harbour development

Works on the new development at Maynooth Harbour have now been completed, which will help to join up walking and cycling routes.
Kildare County Council have confirmed that the works have now been carried out, and they have branded it as an important step as it joins together two walking routes and a cycling route at Maynooth Harbour, which performs a vital commuter function and also provides a safer, comfortable and convenient walking environment for all users.
KCC say that the enhanced cycle network will encourage more people to use that method of transport, and that the harbour area and surrounding green space is now a central point for leisure and recreation and also functions as a commuting hub.
"The two separate multi phase cycle improvement projects were completed at Maynooth Harbour, which have been ongoing and separately under development since 2014," read a statement from the council.
"The first project was the Dublin to Galway Greenway Project, on which Kildare County Council collaborated with various state stakeholders – Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Westmeath and Meath County Councils and Waterways Ireland- to develop the 38km Greenway which traverses through Kildare. The Greenway Project, comprising seven discrete sections, commenced in Maynooth Harbour and extends 14km westwards, which are now completed. Funding assistance for the cycleways was provided by the National Transport Authority and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTaS)."
"The second project was the Maynooth North South Cycle Corridor to link southern housing estates and M4 business campus in Maynooth with a high quality cycle facility to the centre of the town and University. This project is broken into 6 phases, with Phase 4 through the Harbour area, has now opened and now links to the Royal Canal Greenway."
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, T.D., will formally open the Maynooth Harbour cycleways on Monday July 2, at 3.00pm.
