Man charged with rape and false imprisonment in Kildare

A man faces charges of rape and sexual assault following an alleged incident at a location in Kildare appeared before  Portlaoise District Court last week. 

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before the recent sitting of the Court where he was charged with rape, sexual assault, false imprisonment and threatening to kill or cause serious injury to a person on July 17, 2022, at a location in Kildare.  

Bail was granted on a cash bond of €500 from the defendant and an independent surety of €2,500, to be lodged in cash. 

A number of bail conditions were imposed including that the defendant reside at his address, he is to sign on daily at a garda station in Kildare and obey a curfew between 9pm and 7am. 

He is also to have no contact with the alleged injured party or any witnesses. 

He is also to be contactable at all times.

The defendant was remanded in custody in Cloverhill Prison to appear via video link at Portlaoise District Court on November 9, next.
