The Kildare Fire Service has three fully electric vehicles and a hybrid one

Kildare County Council is continuing to increase the number of electric vehicles it owns.

The council currently has seven electric vehicles (EVs) in operation across the county with five delivered in 2024 and one in 2025.

The fire service has three fully electric vehicles and one hybrid vehicle.

An additional 14 electric vehicles are due to be delivered by the end of September.

It’s also hoped to start the process of buying  another three vehicles before the end of 2025. This will bring Kildare County Councils electric vehicle fleet to 27. It is proposed to further increase the electric fleet in 2026.

Cllr Bill Clear urged that community wardens be provided with electric vehicles because this would raise awareness of EVs. KCC official Celina Barrett told the KCC meeting that the council has started to explore the use of alternative fuels in larger vehicles it uses.
