Naas Men's Shed has raised money for a charity which helps people affected by sudden or inherited heart conditions.

The charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), does not get State support. It provides access to free clinical assessment and management to all families of a young person who are living with an inherited cardiac condition. It includes those who have suffered, or are at risk of, a sudden cardiac death.

It also aims to provide a family support programme, offering free access to listening volunteers, mentors and bereavement specialists. Its objectives include organising events, providing access to information and networks as well as supporting research into the causes and prevention of sudden cardiac death “in collaboration with other likeminded bodies.”placeholder image

Some €1,200 was raised by the NMS at the annual Christmas raffle which was hosted at the Town House Hotel in Naas along with the annual party. Another €750 was donated by Derrinstown Stud, Maynooth, making a total donation of €1,950.

Naas resident and NMS member Pierce “Piery” Holden was associated with the fundraising initiatives.

“We choose a different charity each time and we donate the subscriptions from the raffle ticket sales to a different cause every year,” said Mr Holden.
