Brenda Brady opens her first solo exhibition, A Cast of Paintings, in Riverbank Arts Centre’s McKenna Gallery on Saturday 25th February at 6pm.

A Cast of Paintings features small works on canvas made within a typical domestic atmosphere. The making process is imbued with a contemplative sensibility, looking and finding subtle variations, built up surfaces, layers added or painted over. For Brady, painting is not just a visual phenomenon but a bodily and haptic experience. Her work does not look outwards but concentrates on the interior and intimate engagement with plant forms, collected objects and the built environment.

Reflecting on her work and first solo exhibition Brenda states “This is my first solo show which fulfils a long-held ambition for me. The works from ‘A Cast of Paintings’ represent my local environment – nature, buildings and place. I’m so looking forward to seeing them in situ in Riverbank – I like the idea of doing a show in a space where a conversation can happen.”

Colin Martin, artist, lecturer and Head of the RHA School will open the exhibition on the night. Colin is based in Dublin and lectures part time in the NCAD Media Department.

Brenda Brady lives and works in Kildare. She has completed an MA in Art and Research Collaboration (ARC) IADT Dun Laoghaire (2020). Her group shows include - Unassembled, The Lab Gallery Dublin (2020) and 190th RHA Annual Exhibition.

A free Panel Discussion with Brenda and fellow artists will take place on Saturday 11th March at 6:30pm.

A Cast of Paintings runs in the McKenna Gallery until Saturday 1st April. Admission free. For more information please visit www.riverbank.ie
