Newbridge playground, active travel, Kildare sports facilities top the agenda in upcoming MD meeting
Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting to be held on Wednesday, April 16 next
A meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District is due to take place on Wednesday April 16 2025.
As is customary; much of the meeting will be taken up by the 'Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces' section of the meeting, which deals with roads infrastructure, road safety, signage, etc.
However, elsewhere in the meeting are motions on a diverse range of areas, including delivery of the playground and masterplan for Lakeside Park, Newbridge; a call to address the “uneven” allocation of LPT (Local Property Tax) monies; and a call to deliver additional sports facilities in Kildare.
'Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces'
Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer (FG) will ask the council to consider installing a series of ramps to replace the 'Speed Flashing Signs' which she said are frequently out of order, at the L2028 Old Connell Newbridge road.
Meanwhile, Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer (FG) will ask the council to carry out an assessment with a view to installing traffic calming measures on the approach road from Carnalway to the Logstown Road, Kilcullen “at the start of the residential row of houses.”
Cllr O'Dwyer also asks what safety measures, including signage, can be installed at the pedestrian crossing at the Pinkeen Bridge exit into Cnoc na Greine, Kilcullen, to alert drivers to pedestrians crossing.
On active travel, Cllr Chris Pender (SD) asks that the council provide a written monthly Active Travel Report “for this meeting and all future monthly meetings”.
This report, states Cllr Pender, is to include: a) The projects identified within the municipal district, (b) The funding source or likely funding source for each project, (c) The current stage of progress for each project and any other relevant information.
A motion raised by Cllr Pat Balfe (SD) will ask that the council implements appropriate traffic calming and safety measures at the junction at the Nags Head, Monasterevin, to enhance road safety and reduce accident risks.
Meanwhile, a motion by Cllr Kevin Duffy (FG) requests that the council assess the public lighting coverage and lighting levels along the R417 Athy Road in the vicinity of Monasterevin Cemetery.
'Parks'
A joint motion by Cllr Chris Pender and Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer will ask that the council commits to ring-fencing and allocating “any residual/remaining income” from the development of Moorefield Park, Newbridge Playground area towards the delivery of the playground and masterplan for Lakeside Park, Newbridge.
According to the councillors, this would ensure continued investment in community recreational facilities within the area.
'Housing and Regeneration'
Under Housing and Regeneration, Cllr Tom McDonnell (IND) called on the council to address “the uneven distribution of LPT (Local Property Tax) monies allocated to towns within the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.
'Planning, Enterprise, Economic Development and Emergency Services'
Cllr Noel Heavey (FF) will call on the council to identify and locate land blocks suitable for Zoning Amenity/Open Space/Community. This he stated was for the purposes of the imminent LAP (Settlement Plan) for Newbridge in compliance with National Planning Framework.
Finally, also raised by Cllr Heavey is a request for the council to outline its plans “to provide for obligations and opportunities to deliver sports facilities in compliance with National Planning Framework.”
