Newbridge Womens Shed to feature on RTE's Nationwide

Newbridge Womens Shed will feature on RTE 's Nationwide programme on Monday, February 27 at 7pm.

Reporter, Mary Fanning joined the women for their various activities at the town hall and she interviewed several of the women during one of their Tuesday sessions.

Mary heard uplifting stories from the women about how the shed had given them hope, friendship, new skills and a space where they could be themselves.

Chairperson, Tara Hughes, tells Nationwide about their ambitions, their trip to the Dail with Senator Fiona O' Loughlin FF and how she has seen a positive change in many of the women, since they joined.

Kildare County Council's snr. community officer, Carmel Cashin tells the RTE programme that there are eight Womens' sheds in Kildare and the talent sharing between all age groups is really improving the quality of people's lives. One lady told the programme, "I never had friends until I came here."

Mary Fanning says she was so impressed with the energy, positivity and friendship among what she describes as this very special group who exude joy.
