Judge described the case as 'tragic'

A man who faces allegations of breaching a safety order (which prohibits a person from committing violence or threats of violence) was denied bail at a Naas District Court sitting.

Garda Rachel Sheehan told of charging the man with a number of breaches of the order. She said she charged him on September 17 and the alleged breaches took place on dates between June 1 and September 9.

The court heard it will be alleged her ex-partner drove past the woman’s house and beset her residence. She said there were social media posts and he also threw an alcohol can.Gda Sheehan also alleged that the man had absconded, evaded gardaí and fled the scene when she tried to arrest him on three dates.

She said she believed that he would continue to behave like this and that his behaviour has become erratic.

The pair have a child.

Cross examined by barrister Aisling Murphy, the garda said that one of the posts related to the woman’s work but she was not named in the post.

The man’s former partner said they are separated and she fears for her safety and the safety of the child.

Ms Murphy told Judge Desmond Zaidan that the posts were gone within 24 hours and no attempts had been made by him to contact the woman.

Ms Murphy  said a cash lodgement was available for bail purposes and he would observe conditions imposed, including a curfew and signing on at a garda station, if bail was granted. She also said he had met the gardaí on a number of occasions.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said no conditions would force the man to adhere to the order and the state has a duty to the woman and child.

Describing the case as “tragic”, Judge Zaidan noted that there were seven alleged breaches of the order and he refused bail.
