Prosperous woman selected to run for Aontú in Co. Kildare

A Prosperous woman has been selected once again to run for Aontú in the Clane LEA (Local Election Area) for next year’s Local Elections.
Uná O’ Connor, a retired Garda who now works as a Carer and is heavily involved as a Volunteer Community Development Worker. She serves on a number of local committees and is a long time environmental and mental health activist.
She ran as a candidate for Aontú in the 2019 local elections where she came a very credible ninth in a field of twelve with just over three weeks campaigning. It was her first foray into Politics.
She says, “Aontú is the only political party I would ever consider running for. I was always interested in Politics but never moved to actually join a party, let alone put all my efforts into actually running as a candidate and being a rep. However, Aontú resonated with me for several reasons.
“It is a party with a real leader at its helm, real issues which are to the fore of people’s minds and a real and genuine understanding of, and empathy for, the many issues that are of concern to people in both the wider County Kildare area and the country in general.
“Housing, health, cost of living, quality of life and the environment that we all live in and are responsible for are the issues that are of most concern to people. Real bread and butter issues that cause worry and stress to people are our concern. In Kildare we have glaring inequities around housing and health care; we in Aontú have campaigned on these on a consistent basis. People are living with the constant stress of escalating rents, lack of suitable and affordable housing, a health system that is clearly not working as it is and huge inflation. Things are way off kilter and there is generally a huge lack of accountability which is galling.
“I am proud to serve and run for Aontú. It is an honour for me to serve with principled people of calibre and integrity. Our Cumann In Co. Kildare, Cumann Wolfe Tone, is one of the strongest in the country for Aontú and we have seen an upsurge in members since our Ard Fheis. People see that we are the only real opposition in this country; a party that is unafraid to stand up and stand out for what it believes in."
Ms O’Connor serves on the party’s Ard Comhairle.
