Pub denies Larry Murphy visited its premises over the weekend

False rumours were circulating online that convicted rapist Larry Murphy was out having a drink in Carpe Diem bar in Carlow town over the weekend.

Locals were understandably unnerved when people were sharing that he'd been spotted in the pub at Court Place in Graigue.
However, the general manager of the pub, Matt Laffan took to social media to confirm the rumours are completely false, the Irish Sun reports.

He said on Facebook: "A rumour has circulated on social media today that Larry Murphy was drinking in Carpe Diem last night.
"I’m sure the person who posted this had the right intentions, alarming the public. But he certainly was not in Carpe Diem last night nor will he ever be."

The notorious sexual predators was released from prison in 2010 after he was convicted of raping and kidnapping a businesswoman from Carlow in 2000.
And Gardai confirmed earlier this month that Murphy is a 'person of interest' in the investigation into the murder of 18-year-old Newbridge student Deirdre Jacob who vanished over 20 years ago.
Deirdre was last seen at the gateway of her home on July 28, 1998 at about 3pm.
He said: "Yes, Larry Murphy has been speculated about in the papers. Larry Murphy is one of a number of persons we are currently interested in."
The investigation into Deirdre's disappearance was reclassified as a murder probe in August 2018.
Evil Murphy is now believed to be living in the UK after previously basing himself in Amsterdam.
