A man who was renting a room in a County Kildare home has been accused of sexually assaulting the daughter of a home-owner.

The allegations were detailed by gardaí to Judge Desmond Zaidan in Naas District Court on Thursday, September 21 last.

The defendant was absent from court at the time because he was out of the country, a fact which was canvassed to gardaí beforehand.

Gardaí alleged that the man went into the woman's bedroom while she was sleeping, lay down beside the her, and attempted to kiss and lick her.

Although it was claimed that he left, he allegedly returned to her room a short while later and attempted to molest the woman's breasts.

When defending solicitor David Gibbons told the judge that the accused and the alleged injured party 'are somewhat connected,' Judge Desmond Zaidan decided to impose reporting restrictions until further information comes to light in the case.

Judge Zaidan remanded the defendant on continuing bail until the case resumes on a date in November.

The accused is due to indicate whether he will plead guilty or not-guilty on this date.
