Cllr Rob Power (FF) has requested that parking spaces be removed on Cutlery Road, Newbridge

A Fianna Fáil councillor has asked the council to provide an update on the removal of parking spaces on Cutlery Road, Newbridge, Co Kildare, “previously approved by the municipal district.”

Cllr Rob Power tabled his question at this month's meeting of Kildare Newbridge Municipal District, held on Wednesday, July 16 2025.

In its response, Kildare County Council stated that the removal of carparking spaces at the location would require the completion of a statutory process in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic act 1994.

A review of the parking by-laws would also be required, the council wrote.

The council stated: “The merits of removing car parking spaces to increase the space for traffic will require assessment in accordance with the Road User Hierarchy published by the Department of Transport, to ensure its consistency with national policy.”
