Tenor Patrick Hyland is set to feature on a special anniversary broadcast

A rising young opera star from Co Kildare is set to feature on RTÉ lyric fm this Friday.

Tenor Patrick Hyland will appear on a special anniversary broadcast of the popular radio station.

The station marks its 27th anniversary this Friday with a special programming event, New Generation Voices.

RTÉ lyric fm, in association with The Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, selected Ireland’s most exciting emerging vocal talent earlier this year. The five singers were chosen as ones to watch and earned the chance to record an aria with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra under conductor Gavin Maloney.

The recordings will be played across the RTÉ lyric fm schedule this Friday May 1, starting early on Marty in the Morning and culminating on Lorcan Murray’s Classic Drive. Including arias from Puccini, Verdi, Gounod, Dvorak and Donizetti, this is part of RTÉ lyric fm’s commitment to developing and nurturing emerging Irish talent and strengthens the link between emerging singers and professional performance platforms.

RTÉ lyric fm's New Generation Voices are baritone Seán Boylan from Meath, tenor Patrick Hyland from Kildare, tenor Cathal McCabe from Dublin, tenor Seán Tester from Louth, and soprano Deirdre Higgins from Offaly.

Schedule of performances on RTÉ lyric fm:

Baritone Seán Boylan from Meath will perform Avant De Quitter Ces Lieux (Before Leaving This Place) by Gounod on Marty in the Morning

Tenor Patrick Hyland from Kildare will perform E Lucevan Le Stelle (And The Stars Were Shining) by Puccini on Aedín in the Afternoon
Tenor Cathal McCabe from Dublin will perform Lunge da lei (Away From Her), from Verdi’s La Traviata on Niall Carroll's Classical Daytime
Tenor Seán Tester from Louth will perform Una Furtiva Lagrima [A Secret Tear] by Donizetti on Lorcan Murray's Classic Drive
