ROUND UP: Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District news briefs for November, 2023

TENDER APPROVAL
St Patrick’s Park in Rathangan housing project is currently at Stage 3 Pre-Tender approval, according to Kildare County Council (KCC).
KCC also told councillor Anne Connolly that tender approval will be reviewed in Q1 of 2024 and Stage 4 approval/construction commencement is scheduled for Q2 of 2024.
WARNING SIGNAGE
A second solar powered Equine and Rider warning signage system will be installed on both sides of the R413 Melitta Road.
KCC made the comments in response to a motion from Cllr Paddy Curran at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting.
Cllr Curran also nominated for LPT funds to go towards the installation.
YELLOW BOX SOUGHT
A yellow box has been sought for the Town Hall exit from the car park on Main Street, Newbridge.
KCC told Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer, who put forward the suggestion to KCC (her motion was seconded by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer), that there are no plans to install a yellow box at this location, as 'guidelines outline that yellow boxes are installed where two public roads meet.'
However, a KCC engineer said that the council could consider installing a white box at the area.
NO PLANS FOR TRAFFIC WORKS
There are no plans or budget available for a hardcore 'pull-in section' to be provided on a 200 metre stretch of roadway between Kelly's Cross and Ivy House at Clongorey.
KCC made the comments in response to a question from Mayor of Newbridge, Cllr Noel Heavey.
RESURFACING CONSIDERED
Road resurfacing works have been considered for the footpaths and roads at Langton Park in Newbridge.
KCC made the comments in relation to a motion by Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer at the latest Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting.
Her motion was seconded by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.
TRIP HAZARDS HIGHLIGHTED AT ROADWAY BY CLLR
Trip hazards at an estate in Rathangan have been highlighted to KCC.
Cllr Anne Connolly motioned for KCC 'to investigate the issue of roots of trees, spreading out under the roadway, at Glebe Court, Rathangan.'
In response, a representative for KCC told her: "An inspection of the location will be carried out.
"Removal of the trees causing issues may have to be considered."
They continued: "This work will be listed for the next programme of tree works which is planned for Q1 / Q2 2024.
"Any repair works to the road will be a matter for the Roads Area Office to examine," the representative concluded.
Cllr Connolly told the representative that she noted the report, but again stressed to KCC her belief that the area 'is unsafe' at present.
NO FUNDS FOR LIGHTING
KCC has said that it has no funding available for lighting at the Rathbride Road R415, on the Kildare town AFC side of the road.
KCC made the comments in response to two similar queries submitted at the latest Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting by Cllrs Paddy Curran and Noel Connolly.
