As the rain continues to fall why not brighten your day by booking tickets for CMDS’s one act plays running in The Abbey, Clane, Co Kildare next week from the 5th to the 7th June at 8.00pm nightly.
The Society is thrilled to be staging the world premiere of “Two Sides of the One Mind” written and directed by 16 years old Scoil Mhuire Transition Year student Clare Marron, who was recently awarded second place in RTE’s All Ireland Playwright competition.
The play illustrates the inner voice of an Autistic person and how neurodiversity shows up in their daily lives. Clare has cast CMDS regulars Pauline Hoban, Laura Fenner and Sinéad Byrne in the parts of Ciara, Tilly and Anne.
Clare’s play is followed by the well-known “The 39 Steps” (abridged) adapted by Patrick Barlow from the Novel by John Buchan, directed by Cian O’Dowd.
The 39 Steps is also 1935 British spy thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll.
The cast are all well known on the Kildare drama scene – Richard Hannay is played by award winning actor Robert Gallagher, Annabella Schmidt/Pamela Edwards is played by Áine Winters, Clown 1 by Paul Dicker and Clown 2 by Aidan Cooney.
Feeling down on his luck, mild-mannered veteran Richard Hannay plans a night at the theatre.
Little does he know however, that his casual trip to the West End will see him inadvertently cast into the world of espionage, mystery and the secretive 39 Steps.
The night will be rounded off by the second world premiere - an hilarious farce “Until Death” written and directed by Brian Dennison, performed by Gráinne Uí Lúing (Mrs. Phyllis Maude Nott Porter) Jonathan Hillyer (Mr. Peter Nott Porter V) Philip Darragh (George Carr) Ellen Stapleton (Raven) Jennifer O’Brien (Eliza) and Elaine Moore O’Donohoe (Death). Brian describes his play as a cross between Blithe Sprit and Keeping Up Appearances!! He continues; what if someone told you that they have spoken with death? Is it a window into the magical past or the ramblings of a crazy person? Have the nobles and the servants gone off the deep end? Can the lady of the manor keep it together? You’ll find out in “Until Death”.
