The number of job losses in Kildare are yet to be confirmed, but they will be part of the US pharmaceutical giants €1.3 billion cost-cutting programme

Pfizer to cut jobs in Newbridge, Co. Kildare. The number of jobs lost in Newbridge are yet to be confirmed, but they will be part of the US pharmaceutical giants €1.3 billion cost-cutting programme announced back in May.

Sinn Féin TD for Kildare South Patricia Ryan said she hopes the Government will help and support workers impacted by yesterday’s news.

“It is very upsetting and worrying news for workers at Pfizer, and the loss of these jobs is a huge blow to Kildare,” she said.

“They’re a major employer in Kildare; the plant is there since 1992 and the people working there have been central to establishing the company’s presence not just in Ireland, but in Europe.

“The workers there are worried for the future, and it is absolutely vital that Government departments do everything they can [to help them]. My office and I are on hand to lend any assistance they need in doing that, and, more importantly, are available to the workers themselves should they need any help."
