IN-CAMERA

Bail was varied for County Kildare resident accused of domestic violence by his partner.

Earlier this month, the defendant told Judge Desmond Zaidan during an in-camera (in private) session at Naas District Court that there had been 'a misunderstanding' in his case.

On the latest date, Thursday, March 21 last, the man's partner appeared in court during an in-camera session, seeking an interim barring order from the court.

She told the judge that she did not want her partner to remain in custody, and wished for him to 'go into therapy.'

However, she stressed that she does not want him in the family home for the next six months.

Judge Zaidan granted the order, which became effective immediately.

He also urged the man's defending solicitor, Brian Larkin, to inform the man of the consequences if he breaches the order.

In addition, the judge agreed to grant bail for the man: as part of his bail he must sign on at his local garda station daily, and he must find a place of residence.placeholder image

Once he finds a place of residence, he must notify gardaí within 24 hours.

Judge Zaidan also granted the man permission for 'civil communications' with his partner in relation to matters concerning their children.

He stressed that these communications must be 'by text (messages) only.'

The court was also told that the man intends to take up an anger management course, and wishes to resolve his differences with his partner.

Judge Zaidan adjourned the case to a date in July, and the woman's interim barring order will last until this date.

He also extended time for a book of evidence to be served on the accused.
