A woman who appeared at Naas District Court in relation to charges of stealing from a shop at the Kildare Village Shopping Centre has been warned that she could face two years in prison.

The 48- year-old woman was charged with theft at Juicy Couture, Kildare Village, on December 20, 2014.

Defence Solicitor, Tim Kennelly, argued that the accused is 'very unfortunate' as she is taking care of a grandchild who is due to get all limbs amputated.

Evidence was given that her social welfare payments were cut as there had been 'ambiguity' with keeping in contact with the probation services.

Defence asked for a final chance for the accused. The court heard that she has previous for theft, the latest on March last.

Judge Desmond Zaidan acknowledged that the probation services said that she had an 'extraordinary difficulty.'

Superintendent Martin Walker requested that the case be finalised today.

Defence argued that because the accused is living in a rural area, she was unable to attend probation meetings.

Judge Zaidan said : " My mind says one thing , send her to prison and my heart says another, even if there is a 5% chance."

He granted her three months , 'to see how she will behave'.

He added that if she does not behave, then she will be sent to prison for two years.

She was ordered to appear at Naas Court on October 7 and was remanded on continuing bail.
