ALLEGED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

A man allegedly attempted to strangle his own wife and held a screwdriver up to her throat in a threatening manner.

The accusations were heard during an in-camera (in private) Naas District Court session, which was held on Thursday, May 16 last.

The woman appeared before Judge Desmond Zaidan as part of an emergency protection order application.

She claimed that her husband 'is a very violent' man, and has been 'beating' her 'constantly.'

“He once tried to strangle me, and I have photographs showing my injuries," she said: "He has held a screwdriver up to my neck, he has pulled my hair, and he has taken my passport and phone."

The woman also said that she is afraid of him.

She further said that he had recently put her in a hospital because of the alleged violence, and reiterated that she had photographic evidence of her injuries.

Judge Zaidan said that she met the threshold for the order, and granted it.

He adjourned the matter to a date in October for hearing.
