The Curragh is set  to become the site for a  €100million investment in a new Peace and Leadership Institute, with work set to commence on the project next year.

The Minister for Defence, Simon Coveney outlined his plans during an address at the Kofi Anan International Peace Training Centre in Accra, Ghana, yesterday.

The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of Ireland joining the UN, which kick-started over 65,000 tours of duty by Irish soldiers over the intervening decades.

With €10m already committed to the project for next year, Mr Coveney envisages the facility being managed by the military, but with the modules delivered by top universities such as Oxford and Yale.
