Articulated lorries are unable to use a junction in Laois

The issue was raised at a council meeting
Independent Cllr Ben Brennan has asked the council to take action in relation to the junction at Bilboa.
He asked in a motion “that Laois County Council remove the fence in Bilboa at the junction beside the Post Office as buses and Lorry’s can’t turn up to Monavea.”
According to Cllr Brennan, the junction is too tight for an articulated lorry to use.
“Not too long ago a lorry had to back up a long way,” said Cllr Brennan. He said the lorry had attempted to use the junction but was forced to retreat when it became clear there was no way past.
In response to the motion, Area Engineer Tom Drennan said “Laois County Council will review and carry out an assessment of this junction to identify its geometric requirements in the context of matters raised.”
Cllr Brennan said the main problem is the ditch but the farmer who owns the land “said it would be no problem to get it down.” He said “we will meet there and have a chat.”
The motion was seconded by Independent Cllr Aisling Moran at the monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
