Auctioneer impressed by the prices paid for houses

Two Portarlington houses have fetched a combined sale price over a million euro in the Laois Offaly boarder town.

It's understood that one sold for €650,000 while the nearby dwelling was bought for €700,000.

Portarlington-based auctioneer Matt Dunne announced the sale of what he called “two gems”. Both houses were located in the Corrig area of Port.

Mr Dunne says the houses are close to the train station and directly adjacent to the “magnificent” Corrig woods.

He says one of the houses was owned by the late Wesley Dempsey who had a very successful plumbing business.

“He took great pride in his home residence and gardens,” said the auctioneer.

Mr Dunne describes the house.

“A wonderful two-storey, five-bed house standing on circa two acres of landscaped gardens. The house requires modernising but it oozes with potential,” he said.

Matt would not confirm the selling price but it states €650,000 on the Property Price website.

He is also impressed by a nearby property that sold recently.

“Right beside this property is an even bigger house, a split-level modern residence 4,500ft two plus double garage on two acres of mature gardens.

“ The basement is ideal as a granny flat, as it has its own independent access. Corrig with its lovely walks is a sought-after location with house buyers, mainly because of its close proximity to the train station, GAA, tennis courts, new schools & town centre," he said.

"The house recently sold for €700,000,” he said.

Mr Dunne adds: “If you are thinking of selling your house Matt Dunne Auctioneers has the buyers!”
