'Bone shaking' road between Laois and Carlow

Portlaoise Muncipal District might resurface road within three years
A road that is "bone shaking" for passing motorists between Laois and Carlow, may be resurfaced, but only within the next three years.
Cllr Barry Walsh describes the road between Blandsfort Cross and Graigue Cross in dire terms, when he tabled a motion on it to the September meeting of the Portlaoise Municipal District.
"It's a busy enough road. You can go to Carlow on it. One comment to me is that people can feel the bones shaking in their bodies, it's that bad. I drive it, it's patchy, it differs in levels. If you could even do the bad sections first. It does get a lot of use by people coming from Spink," he said.
Cllr John Joe Fennelly seconded and said he drove it when canvassing for election in Spink.
"When you get out of your car and examine it, the surface is very poor. It should be on the roads programme for 2025," he agreed.
However works could take a while to happen. Laois County Council area engineer Wes Wilkinson in reply said that the L-7780 stretch will be included on the list of roads "for considering for resurfacing under the Multi-Annual Roads Programme 2025-2027".
