Boots to host Dementia awareness event in Portlaoise

Customers and community members will get the chance to hear from local health experts
A free brain health and dementia awareness event will be held in Boots in Portlaoise next week. The event, on Wednesday, June 18 at 6.30pm, is part of a nationwide series in partnership with the HSE’s Dementia: Understand Together campaign.
The one-hour Laois workshop will offer customers and community members the chance to hear from local health experts about dementia, how to support loved ones with dementia, and practical steps everyone can take to help keep their brain healthy. A member of the Irish Dementia Working Group will also be there on the night to share their personal experience of living with dementia.
Boots has proudly partnered with the Dementia: Understand Together campaign since 2016, working to make stores and communities more dementia inclusive through training for the staff within the business and public events.
Speaking about the initiative Fiona Foley, Partnership’s Coordinator, Dementia:Understand Together, said: “We’re grateful to Boots for organising these events for the local community, and to be invited to speak about these important topics. It shows their commitment to continuing the conversation around dementia and helping people to understand how to look after their brain health and reduce their personal risk of developing dementia.
"The Dementia: Understand Together partnership with Boots is a great example of how pharmacy and retail organisations can help to build dementia inclusive communities and make a real difference to the lives of people with dementia in Ireland."
The event is free to attend but ticketed, and customers can reserve a place online via Eventbrite.ie by searching ‘Brain Health and Dementia Awareness Event’ or at this link. Arrival is at 6.15pm at Boots, Portlaoise, Units 31/32 Laois Shopping Centre.
